Seeing the World Through Your Autistic Child
About the Seminar
This seminar introduces attendees to contemporary, neuroaffirming understandings of autism. Autism is recognised as a form of human variation — a natural and expected part of the diversity found within the human population. Rather than viewing autism through a deficit lens, this seminar explores how autistic people perceive, process, and make sense of the world, and how this knowledge can transform the way support is designed and delivered.
Participants will gain foundational knowledge of autistic thinking, sensory processing, communication styles, and behavioural expression. The seminar emphasises respectful, person-centred approaches that honour autistic identity and promote meaningful, effective support.
This session with Dr Grace Kamuyu (PhD), a neurodiversity specialist, explores what really works for autistic children and adults: practical, neuroaffirming approaches that help them feel safe, calm, connected, and understood.

About the Presenter
Dr Grace Kamuyu (PhD)
Dr Grace Kamuyu is a neurodiversity specialist with extensive experience supporting learners with a wide range of neurodivergent conditions, including autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, ADHD, and other learning differences. Her work is grounded in evidence-based practice, contemporary neuroscience, and deeply neuroaffirming principles.

She is a lecturer at Torrens University, where she teaches courses in understanding autism, dyslexia and mental health — known for translating complex research into strategies families, educators, and practitioners can apply immediately.
Grace regularly holds seminars supporting parents, carers, and community organisations, empowering families with knowledge, reducing stigma, and building confidence in supporting autistic individuals through neuroaffirming, respectful, and culturally responsive methods.
